Just a simple edit of us having fun in the massive amounts of snow we had during last week’s shortskitrip. GoPro2 making a difference in low light conditions and general contrast.

You see the surfers getting sucked in, the hole becomes darker. They’re surrounded by a fortress of water that is going to hurl you over a sharp reef. But hey: it’s on film in slowmotion. Their grandkids will love it!

I love this concept: 3D print the complex parts, use “standard” carbon tubes to connect. It’s not that beautiful, but the possibilities are endless.
What if you didn’t glued them…but screwed them together. Could I transform a Race bike to a stronger Mountainbike?
The fork weihs 480g and the frame 1100g . If they would use titanium it would even be lighter…

“The surf at Peahi, aka “Jaws”, is considered the worlds biggest and most dangerous and until recently has been considered impossible to catch and ride without the use of a jet ski ‘tow-in’ and foot straps.”
The nice part of it: the larger the wave the more he raises for the Breast Cancer Fundation Australia. So he rides big waves and takes care of australian breasts. Give that man a statue!

Dear GoPro users, let us make something clear: for guys surfing> put camera on nose of the board. For girl surfing it should be on the tail (or on tail and nose) of the board.

Eens tijd gemaakt voor een GoPro2 helmcamera testje ineen te steken. De lichtomstandigheden waren verre van ideaal, maar het kan er mee door. Bekijk deze clip op youtube zelf en stel de resolutie (rechts onderaan) in op 1080P, en bekijk maar fullscreen.
Dit zijn de settings die ik even getest heb:

  • 1920×1080 @30 frames/seconds – Wide 
    > Geeft knappe beelden (bekijk de youtube in HD op youtube zelf, niet op deze site , en stel de resolutie in…) maar is zeer heavy om te bewerken achteraf.
    > de “wide” setting zorgt dat je vlak op iemand zijn wiel/board/… moet zitten. Je ziet alles, maar indien je iemand volgt wordt die al snel “kleiner”
    > enkel als je echt Full HD op TV wil kijken. Te grote resolutie voor internet/PC gebruik
  •  1920×1080 @30 frames/seconds – narrow
    > een leuke nieuwkomer in de settings: de “narrow” setting maakt de GoPro2 zo veel meer bruikbaar; je krijgt nu een meer normale camera zonder de sterk vervormde horizon.
    > aanrader voor als je imaend wil volgen en degelijk in beeld wil brengen
  •  1280×960 @48 frames/seconde – Wide
    >   zeer bruikbare modus. Minder processor heavy om te bewerken, en de slowmotions zien er nog best ok uit.
  •  848×480 @60 frames/seconde – Wide
    > Ik dacht dat dit naar huidige normen een onbruikbaar postzegelformaat zou zijn… maar niet echt. Je kan dit nog zonder al te veel verlies voor 720P movies gebruiken.
    > 60 frames pers seconde geeft je een zeer mooie 50% slowmotion. Haarscherp
  •  848×480 @120 frames/seconde – Wide
    > 120 frames pers seconde geeft je de “mother of all slowmotions” voor de gewone gebruiker (tenzij u een REDcamera hebt liggen)  zeer mooie 25% slowmotion.
  • Speedburst setting
    > kan je zeker leuke dingen mee doen. Heel handig voor de “snowboard sequence pictures”. Je bent zeker dat  de jump er wel ergens goed zal opstaan ;)
Kortom: de GoPro2 is een aanzienlijke verbetering ten opzichte van de gewone GoPro. Let wel: het blijft een mini-camera met kleine lens. Verwacht geen night-shots of perfecte shots met weinig licht…dat kan je niet verwachten voor die prijs met die features (super waterproof, zeer schokbestendig en licht)
Ook een sterke verbetering: de LCD toont nu eindelijk in welk emode je zit in mensentaal. Je moet niet meer de cijfers vanbuiten leren om te weten in welke modus je zit.
Interesse in een GoPro2 in de omgeving van Antwerpen ( of Genk of Brussel …)? Laat iets weten in de comments. Ik  heb altijd wel een volumekorting lopen waar je van mee kan profiteren…
